Accptable number of kicks to start?

I bought an 87 Spree last fall with 4900 miles on it. It runs great but the only thing is when its cold I have to kick it 25-30 times to fire it up. Now when its warm it's a totally different story, one maybe two kicks. Any ideas why it's so hard to get started? How many times does it take to kickstart your Spree?

sounds like your bystarter is bad.

wow bet your leg gets sore! lol
anyhow

to answer your question, mine takes ONE Kick regardless of temp...
Download the manual and check to make sure your bystarter is working, in order for it to work properly from a cold start, you'll need battery power though.. (correct guys?)
also, check your bystarter passage in the bowl of the carb. (little brass do-hicky in the corner of the bowl) make sure its clean and you can transfer liquid from the bowl into that little round cylindrical passage, OR vise-versa.
from what i've read also, these scoots dont like cold weather, although, what 2 stroke does!? my saws run fine, but i had to get cold weather kits for them.

My Elite takes 1 kick. 2 if I'm lazy. Before I cleaned the carb 3 times and changed the Bystarter, it would take 15 or so.

As far as battery power is concerned, I installed a new battery. The electric start worked worked for a week and then nothing. I ride my scoot every weekend ( I don't want it to sit up and develop problems) at least 3 or 4 miles and everything is tuned up as far as plug, air filter, etc..
