I hope I'm making the right choice...

Post by wikked_spree57 »

Well, I started buying parts. I will post here if I buy something off-site and let you reap of how stupid I am or what a good deal I made.

Started with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0444588044

And this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0444597781

Will those be alright on the stock motorI really thought about a belt but I don't think I need it. Pretty sure I got an extra from my 87's original engine, which only had like 1200 miles on it.

What weight rollers should I start with? I was thinking 8 gram.

I also managed to talk Daywot down a few bucks on his Keli Variator. I got it for $42.99 shipped.

So $43 for a variator (not bad imo) and $26 shipped for clutch and center springs is $69. Not bad.

Now I just need a set of pre-pressed 9 to 1 gears.

better launch and mid speed shifting, stock center spring heat fades pretty soon

looks like good choices so far..

good to hear Toast. Glad I'm making a good start.

I'm running out of cash again though, would like my last $20 to go to an airbox.

I got pegged on my way to the bank today for no registration and got a warning so I had to register my bike.

No big deal, was only just shy of $17 but still left me shorter than I wanted to be.

Next deal I make and get more money I want a set of 8 or 9 to 1 gears, hopefully I can get them already pressed.

Oh yeah, payments clear my bank for parts on July 3. I should have the parts shortly after that, everything coming from two sellers in Hawaii.

get 9:1, trust me on this, even if you go 70cc down the line..

8.44 is good, but if you're not looking to do over 60mph 9:1 should be the ticket

9 to 1 it is then.

Now finding the gears is the task. I want a used set hopefully, pressed preferred but unpressed would be okay. I suppose I can go to BB Machine to have them installed.

Those are pretty reasonable prices. Does anyone know if this would be a good place for me to start with my stock 85 Aero 50? I think I could swing for that much stuff to "ease into" some modifications.

The same parts will fit your Aero. The center spring is going to keep the belt from shifting early and the small springs make the clutch grab the bell at a higher RPM.

I really like my toys to take off at high RPM's, seems I get more umph that way.

Even in my cars, I had a 91 Cadillac Seville, I blew the rebuilt trans because I put a 2800 stall convertor in, it barked the passenger side front tire every time I'd try to baby it away from a light. good god, i put it to the floor once and baldened both front tires.
