Am trying to fault find a problem on headlights and I know the wiring has been butchered... in order to work out what should be correct operation, could somebody please tell me...

if the light switch is in the on position, the engine is _not_ running but the key is set to engage the elctrics (fuel guage etc) should the main headlight be on or off?

sorrt for a real basic question, but I haven't got another one close by to compare, and the only one here is the one that had butchered wiring from when it was purchased second hand

cheers

Dave

Greetings:

What model & year is your scooter? On my '87 Aero, the taillamp, brakelights, turn signals horn and fuel gauge all work with the key on. The headlight only comes on when the engine fires. Your mileage may vary. Good luck wiring!

Head light runs straight off the alternator, the engine running gives the light power.

DOH! sorry, Spree 86...

I was certainly under the impression the headlight power came direct from the alternator, but the guy who is helping me fault find has a different opinion
