elite 50 won't go again

History
a budy of mine got it free and it ran for a month or so. One day it wouldn't start (son trying to start with run switch turned off) never ran after that poiont. He put in a new plug and new coil.
Got tired of it and his wife bought him a new one for his b-day.
Now I've got it.

Current
I've taken the carb apart and cleaned it. Took the head off to look at the piston. Carbon build up so I cleaned it and put it all back together.
Bought a new plug. He had an BPR8 in it and I've noticed that the book recommends a 6.
Adjusted the carb per the book.
I've got spark and enough compression to move my finger off the plug hole.
Checked the run switch. On spark off no spark.
I've tried turning the motor with a drill. I do this while giving it some gas.
It will backfire occasionally while doing this.
The plug is set to about .024"
I'm running out of things to try. Wanna get this thing running again. Just don't know what else to try.
It's almost like I have too much oil getting into the chamber. Don't know a whole lot about 2 cycles.
Is that even possible?

try checking the vacuum line to your petcok

Yes you have to check to make sure gas is getting to the carb. That means making sure vaccume valve is working as stated before. Disconnect both lines from the carb and suck on the vaccume line. Gas should flow out of gas line as you do this. If no gas comes out your valve is stuck closed.

When I put the carb on last time after cleaning I pulled a vac. by sucking on the vac line to the tank. Gas came out of the fuel line as I was hooking it up to the carb.
I'm assuming I'm still getting gas.
I have gas in the carb bowl as well.
Any other ideas?

mine did something like this after I cleaned the carb, turned out the air screw was way too... something, but it ran super-rich when I accidently left the throttle slide unscrewed at the carb, try something like that, if it runs with a big black cloud then you may have misunderstood the carb tuning instructions. I think I had my air screw at a quarter inch instead of an eighth, backing it out got it running enough to tune

Why do you say that? Is oil coming out of the spark plug hole? If it is, you have the oil line connected up to the wrong place or a bad oil pump.

Also, why are you using a drill to turn the motor? Is the battery dead or do you not have a battery connected? Is the gas fresh?

When I turn the motor over, and if I put a white rag over the plug hole the mixture on the rag is greenish color.
So, I'm curious if the mix is so high in oil that doesn't ignite well.

The battery works fine but this way I don't have to worry about draining/recharging the battery while I'm trying to get it running. Read it from someone else somewhere, don't remember.

Regarding the oil pump. I've learned that the throttle cable is supposed to be split to the carb and oil pump. The one on this one is not. I plan to replace this later.
The motor did run well and I don't see any damage so I think it's still getting oil somehow. Especially since I can see it on the rag.

you may have bad or old gas in the tank. you say it's backfiring, so it wants to run. gasoline does not last as long as people think. especialy in a small scooter tank. if it has been sitting for a few months you might want to change it.

Some Elite 50cc models have the split throttle cable, but not all. Your pump/injector may be the kind that isn't variable.

If you are concerned about an incorrect fuel/oil mixture, I would disconnect the oil reservoir, plug the line at the pump, totally empty the gas tank and replace it with fresh pre-mixed oil and gas. Drain out the carb float bowl and try starting the bike on premix. At least that will exclude an incorrect oil mix as the culprit.

After you drain out the carb and before you reconnect the tank with fresh gas, try starting the scooter by squirting some starter fluid in the air inlet to see if it runs a little on that.

By the way, I'm assuming you are making sure the run switch is always on and the rear brake pressed when trying to use the starter.

The more the merrier when it comes to oil, try opening the throttle and or choking the engine with your hand.
