Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

So to adjust the carb I turned the air fuel mixture screw counterclockwise and the rpms kept climbing with the motor and wheel racing. I never went far enough out to see if it slowed back down though and eventually screwed it back in until it stopped spinning the wheel. Is that the right approach to tuning it, turning it counterclockwise until it hits the highest rpm possible, then back the idle screw out to slow the wheel?

Seems like it wants to race and takes too long to slow back dowb when its turned too far to the left.

What scooter is this? The instructions for a 2-stroke honda scooter says to turn the A/F screw clockwise all the way until it bottoms out (not hard). Then it would be adjusted out (counter clockwise) a set number of turns to begin with as a starting point and then adjusted from there but that info is in the service manual for your particular model. Please answer the first question.

This is for an 86 Spree

I checked the manual and backed out the af screw 1 1/2 turns. Cranked it up and turned the same screw left and it gets to a point where it revs very high and the idle screw can’t control it. So I turned it back in until I got a high and controllable rev without using a tachometer. Seems to run better now.

I think you've just learned how to properly adjust an air/fuel mixture screw.

With other carbs if I go too far in either direction it will die down. This one just races when it goes to far left. Cranked it up again today and runs well no issues.

Now to figure out how to get all the adhesive off the panels from all the stickers I heat gunned off it. May just sand it down entirely and repaint.

The other spree I have needs the o ring replaced on the oil pump and currently is hydrolocked.
