Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

My spree has a hard time starting if it sits longer than a hour. The only way to start it is to cover the carb with your hand. Once I have it started I put the elbow to the airbox back on and drive it. It has great acceleration but once it reaches higher speeds of about 20 it starts to bog down. When I let off the gas and slow down a little it runs good again. I think the bystarter is bad because it needs to be manually choked but I have been starting it by hooking it up to a battery charger and the positive and negative wires arent hooked up to the battery, I just let them hang. Could this be causing the bystarter to not work? What might be causing the bogging?

yes, not having the battery wires hooked up can cause the bystarter to not work. The bystarted relys on the battery power to retract the piston on it in order to allow more fuel and air for the choke.

Anyway, why would you have your battery disconnected? If it doesn't work, then get a new one, either way, you should have the battery hooked up even if it does not work.
