Electric starter issues

Ok guys, I have just gotten my 86 spree back up and running after swapping out the carb. I currently kick start it to get it running and it kicks over very easily. The issue i have is with the push button start. I am not really sure what to look for to figure out why it is not working properly. I pulled the started and tried jumping it but got nothing.
Can someone confirm how exactly you jump the starter? I just want to make sure I am not missing anything before i decide it is toast.
thanks,
Cole

Bueller?
Come on, I know that someone on here has to know how to jump the starter while it is off of the moped. I just want to confirm I am doing it right before buying a new one.

Greetings:
If you have a 12-volt battery handy, craft a thick (10-gauge) wire from the battery + side with a connector for that tongue on the starter. Have a second wire connected to the -negative pole of the battery. Touch that wire anywhere on the metal housing of the starter. Be careful, it will spark and "jump". If the starter armature spins, it's good. If it hums and doesn't move, it's bad. It can be rebuilt, but for less trouble good used starters can be bought here or new from Honda.

Sweet, thank you wheelman. I will give that a try. I'm pretty sure that it is toast though. Hopefully that will fix my issues with the electric start not working.
I will give an update after this has been tested

Hope you get this starter sorted, Cole.
The site is a bit slack on the Technical side now that our friend mousewheels has taken leave.
Three days to get Wheelman's attention not too bad...
rock-on....

Okay guys I tried jumping it again and got it to work the way wheelman said to. worked great.
So now the question is why my push button start does not work?
I am going to try to look for shorts in the wiring. Is there anything special since the two brake levers have switches? Or is there anything else I should look at?

one or more of the brake levers have to be squeezed before the starter button will work.. usually, the easiest way is to lock the left brake lever with the moving stop, and then that lets you push the starter button with your left hand while working the throttle with your right hand. Once the Spree starts easily, then most people just squeeze the right lever and hit the starter button with their right thumb.
