HELP PLEASE - Troubleshoot cold electric start issue

My 86 spree does not want to start up using electric start in the morning. However it starts with a kick start fine. Once warm the electric start works fine. Called Scooter therapy in Wisconsin and they told me to clean the carb. Other posts in here say it's the bay starter. I put a new battery in to eliminate any weakness.

Please help me troubleshoot. I need to figure this out as I am driving the scooter to my son in college this sat.

do a compression test frist ..

just had a new crankshaft put in with seals. the compression is fine, idles good - top end is good - speeds up to 31 top speed.

if the electric start will not start the motor cold its because there is less then 90 psi when cold... when you kick it the motor turn over faster and make higher compression and will start ... its more like its the compression not gunk in the carb...

You should start by doing what swimmingfree said and check the compression. It takes very little time and effort and could tell us a lot of information.
