Port and polish or BBK?

I have a '87 spree that's in rough shape. I think its time for a rebuild and I'm not sure if I should buy the stock cylinder and port, polish and shave down the head or just get the big bore kit. I don't want to spend too much and I haven't heard back from tazland about a stage 3 kit. I read on here that you can get quite a bit more power without the BBK.

If you go the stock bore route, find an 84 or 85 head to shave, that will rock. Some light porting on a stock cylinder, even before raising the exhaust port makes a difference that's noticeable. 84/85 shaved head will be awesome. If you add the MLM pipe to that, you will grin and giggle ever time you twist the throttle. Now if you do the bbk with the carb and pipe you will outright cackle with glee its so fun

perfect, I'm going to look for a head on ebay. Can I use the orignal head bolts or do I need new? I would like to have more bottom end power than speed. can I use the stock jet?

a motor swap to something with a variator is what you need for bottom end power

If you are happy with the top speed and want a bit more grunt, the 84/85 head with the 86/87 domed piston is the way to go. Especially if you shave about 20 thousands off the head. Add the pipe and it will be impressive with out too much work and money, my spree before the bbk, I had stock 84 piston with the larger 87 reed block same as sb50 reed block with ported intake and some light porting with the pipe and it would climb any hill once I got it in the pipe. And would pick up speed on the way up the hill not just stay at 15mph till the top, it would do near 30mph up large hills.even with out the pipe the different head and shaving it will help. Use the original head bolts they are fine, there is only 8 or 9 foot pounds on them anyway.
