Honda Spree and Elite 50 Forums

Okay, so I am thinking that over the next few months that I'd want to pull my engine out of my Spree and go through it. Are there any special tools I'd need to split the engine open? I want to take it down, clean it out, and re-assemble it.

You need a flywheel puller and a crank installation tool and a pair of bearing pullers. Why go thru the time to do it tho its just a terd spree engine

It was sitting for 20 years in some dude's garage, un-winterized. It runs iffy. I've cleaned everything multiple times and it's not the best it can be. Plus, when I get bored I tend to like to take things apart.

Thanks. I bought the Spree as a learning project, I like engines, I like taking things apart... Here we are. I don't want to swap in an engine because A, Dio's aren't terribly common in my area, and B, I really don't want to be going 50+ on a tiny little spree... For that, I'll just borrow my dad's Kymco.

Its based on spree and elite 50 dont tell me what its based on. The only benifit you will get from a bottom rebuild is new bearings and seals. Just saying why go thru that kinda work its just plain old dangerous to be going 25-30 holding up traffick like that. 45-50 on a spree isnt bad its actually pretty smooth riding

50mph on a spree = good times all round

I'd get a new piston and rings from taz and get a new bearing for the piston pin. Get new crank bearings and seals so when you get the thing torn down you will have new parts to put in. There isn't much other than worn out parts to make a spree run "iffy". The bottom end isn't really the part that needs cleaning up it is the carb and top end that needs the attention. You will likely find that the bore needs deglazing and the exhaust port will need the carbon cleaned out of it. The head will need to cleaned up. I say tear it all down if you want because you will have a whole new machine when you get it all back together with new seals and bearings.
