SA50P Won't start Please Help

Ive had this elite sa50p for a while now and it's ran decent up until now. I read a bunch of stuff on here about De-restricting and have always wondered why it's only done 30 tops. So I went ahead and took out the back plate with the three screws from the Drive Face assembly, cleaned the carb for the first time and installed a new #78 main jet. Now for some reason i can't get the scooter to start and I went through the troubleshooting in the manual but still have no luck. so if there is someone who has any advice about this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings:

The first thing to check for is fuel in the float bowl. There's a drain screw for this purpose. Loosen it and observe for fuel dripping onto your priceless Persian carpet. If it's dry, pop the vacuum line off (the smaller rubber hose from the carb or manifold) off and suc... er, apply Negative Pressure with an EPA-Approved vacuum device for a few seconds and look for fuel coming down.

When the bowl is dry, it can take like 30 seconds of cranking time for the petcock to drop enough fuel for ignitiion.

Yeah I read some of that in the manual and have done exactly that. The bowl was dry so i sucked the vac tube got fuel tried and still nothing. Ive also checked for spark and made sure the alternator was working I do have a really low battery but I thought that shouldn't matter.

I think you should keep the stock #68 main in. Next, would be drill out the exhaust restriction, tie oil pump open, up jet to the #78 main you have, and put about a cap full of oil in a full tank. You should be good to go. 35-37mph+ and it gets there alot quicker.

pore a small shot of premix gas in the spark plug hole to prime the moter..
you need to do a compression test on it....
if it dont read about 90 psi or higher it may never run with out new rings... .

That's a giant picture and that crappy weld looks like the remnants of a restricted muffler. You should clean it up.

Hey so Ive finally figured it out. I had placed the throttle valve in the wrong direction (confused by manual) but i turned it around and it fired right up and is hit'in 35 easy now when it used to struggle at 25. One question I have is about premixing oil into gas but Ive heard you dont need to if you hook up a split (Y) throttle cable going to oil pump and carb? If this is true my sa50p already had this installed :woot:

With the Y-throttle cable.... you should be okay. I have the same scooter/sa50p.. mine is a 2001. That photo of the muffler/exhaust looks like someone did a sloopy job.... I used a Dremel with an aggressive bit and cleaned up the hole. That helped a bunch. Just a note.... This is my first scooter and when I got it...I didn't know that the air filter cover was missing the seal/gasket. Hence, the engine wasn't getting enough fuel due to lack of suction/restriction. I actually used some round, elastic to make a seal... I used spray adhesive and the elastic and that was nice boost in power. I'm about 215 pounds and cruise at 30-32 all day... I wish I could get a little more top end. I'm looking into getting a performance variator and better belt. Trying not to spend a bunch of $ on exhaust and/or carburetor at this point.

hey Luigi. just installed a new variator and gears on my 01 SR with 6.9 rollers and it got me 15+ topend and didnt loose any Acceleration. well worth the money. went from struggling at 32 flat to easily pully 40+ flat and as of now got 48 top but still havent had it all the way open to get a more solid top speed. talk to Graphite9 about variators and what not. he can hook you up.
