I have an 85 Spree that will not run.

130 psi compression.
cleaned carb...tiny * o light can be seen.
barbecued exhaust and replaced washer with new.
installed new spark plug and it is getting spark.
poured a little pre-mix in cylinder...turns over...no fire.
pulled left brake handle.
petcock is working.
What the heck am i missing?

Sorry, what do you mean by that?

Yes sir. All the clips that hold the cover on are missing/damaged but the screw that holds the cover on is in place and tight.
I would think that would be ok? Air filter element is brand new.

This thing just turns over with NO attempt to even sputter and try to start. Acts the same as not having the spark plug wire connected....just turns over.

the higher the compression the hard it is for the spark to jumg so if the gap is 0.024 its got a better chanch of jumping ..
dose the plug get wet??? if you want you can hand choker it

When i ground the plug on the cylinder and turn it over the spark looks fine.

Yes, another reason the plug is new...i felt it might have been fouled. Same condition with new plug

Tried that too.

Am i crazy? Shouldn't a little pre-mix in the plug hole still "fire" somewhat even if there are problems downstream?

One other thing...the carb bowl gasket is cracked where the pilot tube goes into the carb bowl (not missing a chunk or anything just cracked). I really doubt that would cause this concern. Anyone have a good bowl gasket they don't need?

Had a scooter like that - good spark, good compression. The p/o had the air filter come apart and wedge the reeds open.

Any excess oil in the crank case?

That's what i planned on checking next, we'll see.

Without taking the cylinder off i'd say no. It turns over easy and no oil comes out of spark plug hole when turning it over.

check your reeds and intake. if those are all good then maybe test your compression tester lol

His compression tester is good, because I got the same reading on mine (note: the Spree referred to here is mine. Evilone is just working on it for me).

130 psi with broken ring and loose cylinder head bolts.

I was turning motor over by hand using the kicker and seen some bubbles around the head gasket. Found head was loose and i was curious if it had a head gasket or not...it did. Since it was apart i decided to check the rings, i was already there.

Looks like it will need a cylinder, piston, and rings. By the way, reeds are ok.

thebook92...pm me and we'll talk about where to go from here.
