I replaced the rectifier with a tested and working one.... My brand new battery is dead already (about a week)

I mean DEAD... cells are shot. This is my third battery but luckily this one has a warranty still... but I don't want to replace it with the warranty until I can pinpoint the problem.

Any clues?

More info to help diagnose. I can jump it with battery cables and it'll run for hours (literally I did it)... so I assume that means the stator works properly.

Also the Starter actually works since I can start it with the jumpers.

I replaced the Rectifier because it makes the most logical sense but obviously I must have over looked something simple. PLEASE help me if you any ideas.

Even though it has been replaced, the regulator is worth verifying. This is because it's the only component tied to the battery when the ignition is off.

With the scooter battery removed, Place a multimeter set to '10 Amps DC' in series with the jumper cables you are using.

With only the black jumper lead connected to scooter's green battery lead:

• Connect Red lead to car battery side.
• Connect black to scooter Red lead.
• Remove the taillight, turn on ignition. Don't start your scooter.
• Current draw should be near zero. If not, unplug the regualator.

If you still measure current flow with the regulator removed, take note of the reading and post back, might help with troubleshooting.

A bad battery will kill itself.

I had the same deal. I fixed the symptom, but not the cause! I put in a toggle switch in the main 'hot lead' from the battery to the rest of the system. Nothing happens if that switch is off - cranking, battery drain, etc. No more dead battery and it is an anti-theft device also.

There is a short in the system somewhere that is draining the battery. Probably in the rectifier/regulator and a few simple tests with a meter would prove that. The switch is a fools way of fixing this problem because it does NOT fix anything, just ignores it by bypassing it.

If they want to steal your scooter they will just carry it off or know that unplugging the ignition will let them kick start it and drive it away.

Ha Ha. Actually my scooter has no kicker (85 model (?)) and is probably the worst looking Spree in the Southwest! Not worth the trouble to carry/push it off, but it does get me from one end of the pits to the other. I figure it is the rectifier ; switch was cheaper.

I have a friend that has a crap, you know him! Anyway the relay on his car that turns the cooling fan on and off is defunkt. He has a toggle in place and a jumper box in the trunk. (for when his wife leaves it on overnight) I keep telling him replace it or his wife will forget to turn it on and kaboom! blown head gasket.
