The plate is on the back of the drive face...the pully near the starter. Take the bolt out and remove the huge gear, and variator, the restriction plate is bolted to the back of it with 3 bolts. take it off and put the vari back on and let me know how fast you go lol I think you can modify your stock pipe to be unrestricted. I drilled out the washer in the end of the pipe that connects to the head, not sure if that is the right way to do it but seemed right to me. not sure on the main jet I think it is supposed to be a 78. Download the service manual on the tech docs section of this forum it will tell you the jet size of the carb and how to take stuff apart :D good luck also if i am not mistaken the airbox needs an extra tab pushed out but dont quote me on that, I dont have a stock airbox. I also think the oil pump may be restricted but that wont be a problem for you unless you decide to do some modifications :D

Sorry to say all of this information Does not pertain to the 87 SE50P :surprise:

However it is true to other bikes.

The SE 50 P is restricted by the variator and the ramp plate as well as the exhaust.
I have this same bike and it does 50 mph all day long.

Things that need to be changed....

Stock airbox is best left alone. Combination of and unrestricted pipe 85-87 Aero Stock pipe or a Leo Vince SP3 and an 85 main jet.

Performance Variator or ruckus variator (some modification) weights of rollers need to be adjusted accordingly to the riders weight and driving conditions.

90/90/10 tire is helpful in a few more mph.

0.50 shaved from the head increases compression and helps the SE50 with enough torque.
These are the things I did to my bike to get the fore mentioned performance. :werd:

OK, Noob question: How do you hold the drive face gear to remove the bolt and gain access to the variator? I have a belt/filter wrench that works nicely for the clutch bell, but I cannot use that on this, even if the starter gear wasn't in the way.

Any help? I have another variator but it doesn't look like its gonna fit just based on what I can see, have to get a closer look with the stock part off. Thank you.

Someone is going to disagree but, I put a large pair of vise grips on the driven face wedging it against the case. then hit the bolt with the impact. Do not use the impact during reassembly. Use loctite and a ratchet.
