How do you remove upper speedo cowling on 86 Spree

Post by duckcove »

I've removed the two silver Phillips screws from underneath, the two plastic black screws on the sides, and the 6mm cap screw facing the driver. Something is loose and making a racket. Perhaps the speedo. Don't know until cowling removed. Help. Duck

ok, you need to use something to pry out on the lower half to get it over the stud sticking out(where the cap nut was) then you can get to the hold down for the top part of the cover, it needs to be pryed off the same stud. then it will just pull off.

yeh, there is a little tab which goes around that stud...i didnt know that on my first speedo plastic...now that tab isnt there any more.
once you get that off, dont forget to take the speedo cable off the front wheel(mine was really short and i couldnt remove it from the speedo)
