Greetings:
The pilot - along with the correct negative pressure in the airbox - is CRITICAL to geting your stock Spree running. If it's blocked, it just won't run or for sure won't run right.
You can soak it longer than 3 days and perhaps improve the odds. If you're feeling lucky, follow This Procedure to remove the brass standpipe. A lot of twist left-right-left-right and wiggle it out of there. Then use a fine bristle to poke the fuel Epoxy goo out of the pilot hole. The brass pipe goes back in the same way. Minimize jacking with it so it doesn't become too loose.
Do the emulsion tube under the main jet while it's apart, along with any connecting "Mini-Jets" to the bystarter bowl. No need for a new used casting, which will probably be as gummed up as yours anyway.

Re: Crank Case Full of Oil on my Spree
Thanks, Wheelman. I think I'll be going that route. I already tried removing the standpipe but I got scared off from the procedure after applying a great deal of force with no success of breaking it free. I actually threw it back together this afternoon for fun and it's running better than it ever has - dare I say, close to even perfect. Maybe I got the standpipe clean? I still don't believe I do, but things seem to be running OK.
Now my problem is the blue smoke. The Spree is smokeless for about the first minute of operation and then it begins dumping a pretty thick blue smokescreen. Since this machine had the cylinder that was filled with oil, maybe I just have to burn it out? Will old 2 cycle oil cause thick blue smoke? (I haven't changed out the 2 cycle oil yet, just the gasoline and transmission gear oil.

Greetings:
I think the Free-Swimmer has nailed it. The pipe takes a good while to get hot enough to start smokin' the oil that probably resides within. Either a really long ride or removal, drain out the headpipe followed by a good Bar-b-que roasting should de-smokify your Spree. I'm actually more concerned about the first-minute smokelessness. By all means drain whatever's in the oil tank and replace with known-good 2-stroke oil. Honda's GN-2 is as good as any for a Stock application.

Re: Crank Case Full of Oil on my Spree
Good call, Free-Swimmer. I went for a good long ride this morning (15 miles) and I think the smoking has subsided - if not ceased. However, I took the ride so early this morning that it was still dark out to prevent drawing attention to myself, so I can't truly verify if I was successful until I ride in the daylight. I know I shouldn't be ashamed of my Spree's blue tail, but I didn't want to get pulled over for it and get busted for not having insurance yet (yes, AZ requires insurance AND a class J, sub-100cc motorcycle license for Sprees: Lame).
Thanks for adding your two cents, Wheelman. I've never heard of roasting an exhaust! I need to try it sometime! However, I don't think I'm going to have to with my scoot - thankfully.
Attached is a crappy shot of my now-running-great Spree. 850 original miles, perfect shape, all original - $250 bucks! All it took was a cylinder draining, a petcock soaking, a carb clean, a new spark plug, and a new battery
Thanks for all your help everyone! I would have still been banging my head against the wall with a cylinder full of oil if it wouldn't have been for you... Now to invest in a decent locking system to prevent my new scoot from getting stolen in the wonderful city of Phoenix

Re: Crank Case Full of Oil on my Spree
Float levels never wear to a lower level, only up. The jet hasn't got diddly to do with a high float setting.TimmyC wrote:Three days of soaking in Berryman's and my pilot circuit will not blow clean. I'm frustrated to say the least. Does anyone know where I might be able to score a new and/or used carb body? I think I have to give up on mine. I'm trying to source one locally in Phoenix through salvage yards and Craigslist but I'm not having any luck. Am I making too big of a deal over this pilot circuit? Should my Spree be running OK with this passage clogged? What does it do anyway?
Bear45-70, how could the float level be too high if the floats aren't adjustable? Knowing where this scooter came from, I doubt the main jet is anything but factory standard.
