Removed 6.3s and installed 5.6es tonight. Too late to test. Play with the needle how?
How many total grams did you go down?

Uh, from 37.8 to 33.6 I guess. They're sets of 6 rollers by Polini in oddball sizes. Revved to 9300 with the 6.3s at WOT before variator maxxed. I'm guessing 98 with the 5.6es.

Re needle: do you think I need to richen first? Clip is currently in position 3 of 5. Sure is cold-blooded.

Yeah you can try and richen the needle to see what happens.do a plug chop to seewhat the main is doing. Also you should try and drop the weights in around 1to1.5 grams total weight.a 3 gram change is a big jump and sometimes to much.

I'll try mixing in half-and-half 6.3s and 5.6es if all 5s prove to rev too high. Thanks, Bak!

It is hard to read - does that say max speed 100 mph?

Indeed it does: Maximum Speed 100. Musta forgotten to reset the old GPS after the Yellarosa-to-Deepinnaharta Texas Commute in the Family Truckster.

Still, it's good to have goals... :)

Unless of course you need to stop for any reason... :)
And also:
The bap bap bap that your getting,is that at wot or as your rolling on the throttle?
At any speed above 40-ish, when I open the throttle wide I get this oscillating louder-softer-louder effect about 10/second. It stops when I reduce throttle to 2/3s. It sounds/feels like a pressure wave running fore-and-aft. Hard to describe really, but that's the best I can do.

Well all 5.6es certainly brought the revs up. Cruising steady 40-ish leaves the engine around 8400, but it jumps to 96-9800 when I wick it up. Since my cheap TinyTach quits at 9999... Top speed wasn't any less but I didn't get the GPS out to confirm. I'm considering going half 5.6 and half 6.3 to see if that 4-gram jump was indeed too much as Bak suggested.

Bak it looks like you have a Mik smoothbore yourself hiding under that yellow plastic? What main are you using? Needle position? I know every bike is different, and I feel I'm in the ballpark with 150 and 3 of 5 clicks.

Still with tha Wa-wa-wa-wa at WOT. Turns into Waaaaaah with the throttle allowed to return to 3/4 open. No loss of power or rpm, just that weird sound. Could the CT reeds be doing something funky at that rate of flow? Carb too small? Is it even something to warrant concern? I dunno, never encountered this effect before.

Try doing a plug chop and see what the plug says.what does the temp gauge say at wot for 6-7 sec. ?

Temps stable at 325-350 over a minute at WOT. That's what makes me think it isn't just a jetting issue. I will install a new plug and try a chop tonight, weather permitting. You're being awfully coy about your own jetting setup, Bak! Please do tell?

Thanks for the great suggestions here and offline. Always good to learn from someone ahead.

Greetings:

Deepinnaharta has been in a bit of a Deep Freeze - for here. AM temps in high 20s. Plug is a light cardboard color. Definitely lighter than with the V8, but it was spinning an average of 500 RPM faster. Certainly not rich. Still *-for-strong pull. (for a 78cc...) Temps tonight staying below 300 for some reason. I'm convinced the temp gauge is possessed by evening Demons. The conspicuous lack of explosions below supports my belief that the jetting is close, maybe a shade lean.

I swapped rollers for half-and-half 5.6 and 6.3s. Bakaracer was right. I was over-revving past the torque peak. The Wa-wa-Wa-wa-Wa-wa sound thing seems to be only that. An echo wave that does not seem to affect performance. Buries the speedo in about 15 seconds. Sorry no GPS top speed, but it's fast enough.

Now to address a different cold-weather issue: It starts instantly on the manual choke/enrichener. It warms up within 2 minutes to accept throttle, and I tootle off. Then about 1/10th of a mile away, it starts to die unless I feed copious amounts of throttle. During a 1-minute period it refuses to idle - threatens and sometimes does stall. Back to choke for restart, run another minute and it's back to normal. Carb icing? Once the fan is blowing hot air over the carb, it runs fine unless I stop for an extended idle - like at a long traffic light.

The carb I have on my bikes is the oko carbs so the jets are different. What plug are you running? iF its a 9 drop to a 8.the 9 plug might be to cold so when first starting or sitting ata light the bike is loading up because the plug is to cold.Since the plug you had in there was a light cardboard color, try and up the main jet 1 size.
