Greetings:
If you ignore 0-5 MPH, you'd never know the gears were so tall.
Scorpion seems a bit stronger in the midrange, but despite a pretty good tailwind and a quarter-mile or so at WOT, RPMs never got over 9500. Polini with Short PG routinely broke 10K. I have a different, possibly weaker Polini contra spring, might try the Big Bad Blue one and go up a few grams to see if it's the pipe or the vario keeping the RPM lower. Maybe that's just where the Malossi likes to live?

Greetings:
Back from 8-mile check ride in 88-degree weather. Had 55/150 yesterday and part-throttle temps reached 400, briefly. Swapped to 58 before leaving. Part-throttle dropped to 384, no rise at WOT and no heat spikes off-throttle. Power was better all through. Speedometer needle left speed lines disappearing behind the nacelle cowling. 65 easy, NO wind involved.
Anybody else notice how quickly the fuel level drops after it reaches half-full? It was competing with the speedometer needle leaving a blur as it dropped out of sight. Still no fiery conflagration as my Low Oil lamp came on with the dropping fuel level in the oil tank. Got home on fumes.
Vario definitely needs about 500 more RPM to optimize acceleration. Whacked open, tached 9200 as it gathered speed, then RPMS kept rising quickly as the vario maxed. Feels like more more power is there as the RPM rises, so methinks the variator is hoding it back a tad. Touched 9500 and climbing when I ran out of road. Already just 28 grams in the Polini/Ruckus. Thinking about the Big Bad Blue Polini +2K Contra instead of lowering vario weights below that.

Sounds like fun, 28 grams is pretty light compared to my build but then again I am not running a polini vari. I run a prodigy non zx trans. I think I stay at around 34-36 total grams in my setup. But then again completely different builds, mine is not even boost port matched. It pulls me at 65mph though. As I recall my gearing is 7.83 I should write my specs on my signature line so I can remember. Thanks for sharing! Sharing is caring.

Still hasn't proven faster than Corsa/PG Short was, albeit in much colder weather. More oxygen per cc of air...
My OKO Airbox may account for some of the jet demand difference. That thing flows a lot of air, even with thicker replacement sponge element. That and high compression making more heat. I don't see any evidence of an air leak, but certainly that's another possibility.

Does the OKO airbox muffle much of the engine noise? I would not mind having a bike that was not seriously loud for night time drives.

Not one iota of noise mufflage from the OKO box. It has a little trumpet inside the box that might be the reason for its good performance, but if anything, it's Louder.

Popped in Polini Big Bad Blue contra spring, "cheater" style, without taking belt cover off. This means I left the 28-ish gram load in the variator alone.
Cracked open, the MHR now immediately gins up 9900 RPM and Holy Poopage, as the French say, so That's where all the power was hiding. It's a bit more hunty when holding Legal street speeds, but I can keep revs fairly steady at 45MpH @7800 despite the tight belt and light roller load. Much quicker to grab revs as I roll on.
But here's the weird thing: it appears to run at least 50 degrees cooler. Probably the increased fan speed, and faster refreshing of cold fuel charge with the RPM increase. Malossi apparently hates to Lug.

Scorp pipe likes that heavy center spring and its a hard pipe to tune your transmission set up with. It takes alot of guys a while to get the right trans set up for that pipe. The newer scorpians are kinda junk compared to the first generation scorp pipes.

I don't know what Generation mine is, but it seems to represent a slight performance improvement compared to the PG Short, at least at the higher RPMs. Not junk for sure.
It seems necessary to add just 2-3 grams to my current load to get it perfect. Sounds and feels like it's revving just a bit above the sweet spot as it is. It feels like it needs to be 9500 or so when the throttle goes to Full and the variator starts to ... uhh ... Variate. That way the variator will max out around 10K and the engine power's on its own beyond that.

honda's..
Mass of the clutch shoes. Some folks drill them to lower mass and increase clutch engagement RPM. Not for the faint of heart.
Increasing clutch spring stiffness does the same thing (the three little springs under the bell.)

Sorry I've been scarce lately. Now safely ensconced in Domesswit, Texas, will resume tuning and testing Flash 6 with the Scorpion exhaust. A whole new neighborhood to alienate, Yay!
It seems Flash has developed slight incontinence parked in the new garage. Perhaps trouble sleeping in a strange environment? Anyway a drop or two of what appears to be transmission oil a week is falling on the floor. Thankfully I had the foresight to protect it with Ms. Wheelperson's priceless Persian carpet...

Greetings:
It seems Flash's recent incontinence episode was caused by a weepy tran case gasket. Apparently three times is the re-use limit, even with a generous slathering of grease.
I noted previously that the 2-bearing ('94-98) gaskets differ slightly from the late '98-2001 single bearing cases. I had only a 2-bearing version to install in my single bearing case. This is why I procrastinated, partly. So far, no leaks. I just hope the incorrect gasket isn't blocking some critical passage preventing oil from getting to the plain steel shaft end/alu cup interface. Maybe I should just order the late gasket, but I wanna ride.

any new top speeds ? Have you cracked 70mph on this motor?
