84 Spree dies when you give it gas
I just got a 1984 Spree NQ50. It starts everytime. But as soon as you give it any type of gas it stalls out. I have cleaned the carb and checked the float and even the gas regulature under the tank to make sure it is getting gas (all are ok). Can anyone give me an idea what to check next.

Clean the carb again
try a new spark plug
Tell me about your air filter, how old is the foam? Has the system been modded in any way? Make sure the 2 little intake tubes on the lid are clean(thel fill with dirt and blowback oil over time).

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
I got a new sparkplug and now it stays running. I cleaned the carb again. I also tried taking the bystarter out and put my finger over the hole and it stayed running while gas is applied. left the bystarter out and plugged the hole and took it for a ride once the scooter heated up it started to dog out. I am going to get a new bystarter tomarrow for it and try that. The air filter fell apart on me when I tried to remove it so went and got a temp. filter. Will also replace with the right one tomarrow. As far as I know there are no mods done to the scooter. hope this help you help me.

Bench test the bystarter. Measure length and apply 12 volts for 5 minutes and measure again. The bystarter only gets power when the engine is running. If it is bad the scooter will run great till it warms up, then a rich condition will be observed.

Take the bytarter out, unhook it.
Measure how much brass junk is sticking out the end
Hook it up to your battery or 12 volt power supply for 5 minutes.
Measure again, it should be longer.
If the bystarter cant get it up then the bike will run rich(*) as it warms up.

If you have problems starting cold the passages in the carb related to the bystarter are clogged. Buy a can of dip(not the stuff made from tobacco, the stuff Im talking about will kill you MUCH faster) and dip the carb, then blow it out with compressed air.
Follow this guide for disassembly, I though my carb was all apart and I still had a few parts to go.

cleaned jets and now I am back to the original problem wont stay running when you appily gas. But I tried the check screw on the bottom of the carb and if i open it it will run like a champ. Also if I put the bystarter back in it will not even start if I take it out and plug the hole it starts right up. Waht to do next I would like to have it running by morning or I have to walk to work. HELP PLEASE.

A: Drain screw?
B: Idle mixture screw?
C: Throttle stop screw?
As Kenny said, there's a microscopic chamber between the bystarter port (the little bowl the bystarter plugs into) and the main carb bowl. Find a piece of clean, thin gauge (.11 -.13) steel wire (gtar string), and carefully poke it through that tiny passage way. There's probably junk in there; if so, the bystarter can't do its job.
If that doesn't fix it, the bypharter is likely toast. WARNING!: Do NOT buy one of those Asian clones on eBay. ($29). For a few bux more you can get a Honda-San correct unit from a guy who's supplied carbs 'n pharters to several of us here - Greg in Wisconsin. (forget email address but maybe someone will chime in).
Hopefully this will help you for your morning commute. If not, you're not very far away from success. Hang in there.
