Honda Aero 80 poor running

Post by guysmiley1021 »

I bought an aero 80 a while ago and it has always started first kick and idle fine but it wont run above 1/4 throttle or around 25 miles an hour. After 1/4 throttle it spits pops and slows down. Its also pretty sluggish to 25. I cleaned the carb 4 times thinking i missed something, replaced all the vaccuum lines, replaced the reeds and the only thing left to replace is the vaccum control box. Help me out if you have an aero and youve had the same problem.

do a plug chop, your probably running lean, make sure the air filter is good, oiled, and that the airbox is securly attached to the carb.
Unplug the bystarter when the bike is cold then if it rides well you are running lean.

There is no bystarter on the carb like the 50 and 125 have, the only thing to the carb besides the throttle cable are the vaccuum lines that i replaced, and the gas line. It seems to run a little better with the top of the airbox off, but not much better. I can hold it wide open from a standstill and hold it back without any brakes, but it just isnt revving up it just spits and pops. After doing that the plug is wet with fuel, but not fouled. Any other ideas?

Does it rev with you hand over the intake?
does it rev without the airbox or attached to the carb?

I have an 83 Aero 80 that was put together from boxes of stuff where the previous owner had taken it apart. Anyway, I had issues getting it to run right. I think I ended up replacing all of the vacuum lines, fuel lines, jets and gaskets in the carb. After all of that, it ran well, but took 5 minutes to get it started. How are you cleaning the carb; soaking it in cleaner or spraying it? Have you tried spraying starting fluid around the carb while it's running to check for air leaks? I have a shop manual for the 83 to 85 and I'll look to see what else could be going on.

Thanks, i was looking around for a manual they usually have troubleshooting pages, but i couldnt find one anywhere. But my aero starts first kick everytime and idles fine but otherwise it runs horribly. I dont know what goes on inside the vaccum control box but im thinking that could be the problem its the only thing i havent replaced yet.

I also cleaned the carb both ways i let it soak overnight and then sprayed carb cleaner in everything and made sure the jets were clean.

It doesnt rev with your fingers over the carb, but runs a little better with the airbox and filter off, but still doesnt rev by any means.

Pics of said carb disassembled? Sounds like you cleaned a jet with a piece of wire.

I didnt clean it with a wire i didnt stick anything through any of the holes i just let it soak and cleaned it multiple times, everything is perfectly clean, and the guy who had it before me let it sit for the past couple years and he was pretty old so i doubt he messed with the carb or anything for that matter

Is it burning oil? This is a 4 stroke machine.

My bad elite 80 is a 4, aero 80 is a 2. could you be running wrong oil? Have you tried cleaning the muffler and checking the exhaust port for excess buildup?

Nope i drained the oil from the tank and refilled it with yamalube, i run it in every bike i own. Im going to order the choke valve and the vacuum control box and if that doesnt fix it im going to tear the motor down and rebuild it and clean the exaust port out and see how it runs then, im starting to run out of ideas.
