Stripped crankshaft bolt!

I have an 86 Spree and I runied what I think is the crankshatf rod? I absolutely cannot get any nut to stay on and cannot not rethread the bolt. What should I do?

Pics? If you did strip your crank its fubar and has to be replaced.

Crank is junk, will need a new crank and a full engine rebuild.

no i say just try tapping it out first to put a smaller nut on it

Tap it, put the nut on and tack it with a welder. Put a new belt on because it aint comming off after that. :D

You could put some welds on the shaft, then re-tap the crank. Too much heat will bake the seals, though, and then you'll need to pull the crank to replace them.

If you retap, look at the SAE (non-metric) sizes as well, there may be something smaller than what you have and larger than the next smallest metric.
