Idle noise...

Post by Burgleflickle »

I'm having trouble with idle noise on my 88 sa50. She still starts on the first kick, but just gives a ringing, grind noise. I have isolated the sound to the kickstart. When I pull out on the kickstart pedal lightly, the sound gets very soft. I'm wondering if I should be looking at pinion gears, or just check the driven gear and lube what I need to. If someone could please help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys.

Not returning properly, pull it off and have a look/lube it up (soak it in WD40).
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

I pulled it apart and oiled it. It sounded fine until the snap ring moved on it during use. The kickstart pedal dropped down as well when I drove it around the block... Possible to just put washers in and shim the kickstart on the outside of the cover?

Could be a missing washer or something, check a break down parts diagram.

I have it fixed. It was just like you said. I put a washer in, and I'm good to go.
