7 to 1 gears
i am getting a set of 7 to 1 gears for my elite for free. I am getting a high speed pulley kit, a a race clutch with 2,000 rpm clutch springs. should i install these gears or what. What i am asking is how do these gears work. whats the difference between 7 to 1, 8 44 to 1, and 9 to 1. will some one plzz tell me how this works.

I THINK...
If its 7:1 it means that your clutch will turn 7 times to your rear wheel turning every one. The lower the gear the lower your take off and higher your top speed. From what i've read on here it seems like 7:1 is a little low for a bike without a bore kit. Dac says 8.44:1 didn't hurt his take off at all without one so maybe 7:1 won't be too bad. I don't know how the other combination of parts your getting would affect it though.

If your getting a bore kit, a new carb and pipe and want a higher top end use the 7:1 gears..if not get 8.44:1.
I'd say try the 7:1 gears as dac has some great results on a stock engine with 8.44:1 gearing and with a bore kit and the extra power you should be fine with 7:1
Thats just my opinion though
Don't forget to play with rollers too

naw dude, i would not even bother.
Even thought i have great results with my bike and 8.44:1 gears, i talked with keoni on another forum and he brings up some strong points that, its not just what the motor can push its how it can push it.
9:1 is good for a stock bike. 8.44:1 is ok, but not the best. 7:1 is way to low.
i say just hold off till you order everything.

that could also be because of your PGLong.burnt_toast wrote:I'd have to agree. I have 7:1 straight cut Malossi and they take off accel until you roll to about 15mph..
If you dont mind that go for it, but I've tried the 2k clutch grab springs and didnt help one bit.
