85 Spree Lack of power, hard to keep running

Post by khs1991 »

Just purchased this 85 Honda Spree. Charged the battery, cleaned the carb several times and checked it all over. It will now start and run but has no power and is hard to keep running. It will idle for a short time, maybe a couple minutes. I can keep it running with good power by spraying carb cleaner in the air cleaner side of the carb. Seems like a lack of fuel. I check the petcock and it is giving a good amount of fuel. Please help.
Thank You

Actually, I think it's running too lean. Do you have an air filter in the airbox? Spraying in carb cleaner should cause it to sputter out and die, not run better.

yes, As I said I think it is a lack of fuel (too lean). I was just pointing out that the petcock is working. Yes it does have a good air cleaner in it. Any idea's?

Check for leaks around your carb, air box, or intake that could be allowing more air into the system than is supposed to be there.

Loosen the exhaust bolts and see if it runs any better, your exhaust could be carboned up, if air isnt getting out it wont be taking it in.

Cloggedemusion tube/cartridge? its semi pressed in above the main jet. Clogged one would cause lean out.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
