Quick fix for more RPM?
I have an 87 honda elite 50 that tops out at 22mph. It is a stock set up and I had the carb cleaned last summer. The belt is fine and in good condition, so what can I do to get more bang for my buck? I was talking to some friends and they were saying that if I got a cone shaped air intake instead of the stock rectangle I have, that would help out, but can I do that with out off setting the plastic body? I'm not too great with engine mods or what not so if that could be avoided, that would be best. oh is there a governor on these things?? How do I take it off if there is? One guy said there might be a computer box somewhere on the bike, but unless it is hidden under the speedometer I've never seen it. I don't think there would be any computer chip on something this old as well. Any help is good help. Thanks!

also 22 mph might mean you have an Iowa model the most restricted of the bunch.
i'm not really sure what those restrictions are however. use the search feature.

Don't use a pod filter. That's not going to help. Neither is the computer.
22MPH is too slow... you need to look at the basics to fix this. Compression, plug condition, exhaust / exhaust port carboning up, head carboned up. If this Elite has a variator (it sounds like it does) you may want to check the rollers as well.

Thanx for the input. I checked the web site for VTCYCLE and a lot of the parts they dont carry anymore but they do have a high speed pully kit with 9g rollers, i don't know if that would work. Hmm an iowa engine you say? Why would they restric those? There is nothing down there anyway hahaha. What basics could I do to see if I could clear anything up? I kind of cleaned out the outside, got a new air filter and cleaned the carb, my belt is fine so the onlything I could think of is if you guys want me to clean up internal parts or something. . . .

Theses are the internal parts that probably need cleaning. If the last owner used crappy oil there will be carbon buildup everywhere, the oil was. I have seen pictures of exhaust ports totally blocked with carbon. These are the most likely suspects for this problem. Good luck!noiseguy wrote:Don't use a pod filter. That's not going to help.
