Ignition Switch/Starter relay

Post by eliteChopper »

Well as some of you may know from my other thread i am building a chopper w/ a custom built frame and a 88 elite motor. i recently rewired it with just the wiring it needs to run. But here is my problem. The wiring isnt attached to the frame yet.
I turned the switch on let the motor turn over it no plug in it. Then I installed the plug, primed the carb and hit the starter switch. Surprisingly it started, but while running my starter switch (wich was laying on the frame) fell off and hit the positive lead to the battery and arced a good bit.
So after this happened it ran for a second then died due to a nasty petcock. I cleaned the petcock, went and pushed the starter button. Nothing happened. The starter relay wasnt clicking at all. So i pull the relay out and tested it. It clicks wired strait to the battery. Then i get my volt meter out and check the switch, its good. After this I get a jumper cable and stick the positive lead strait to the starter.
It turned over and started. It was running perfect. I let it idle for about 20 minutes then go to turn the key and cut the ignition switch off. It continues to run, then I unplug the ignition switch.....it stays running. So i pulled the plug wire and if finaly dies.

I do believe i have two sepperate problems here, starter and ignition swich. I checked the voltage at the terminals on the ignition swich and I have 0v at the switch. And the sarter relayis getting no power either. What is your oppinion and ideas on testing this?

NOTE:
Battery has 11v and the fuse is good.
