Proper tire irons instead of screwdrivers and such is the first thing I suggest.
Inflate the tube BARELY once you have it inside the tire.
Use a light dusting of baby powder on the tube.
Use fingers to guide the tire irons to the right spot on the wheel without pinching the tube.
There is a method of using WIRE TIES to wrap the tire and tube and install as a unit.
I have never tried this, some say it is magic, others report bullshet.

i tried the zip tie method on my elite rear not long ago and on a tire and rim this size it doesnt really give you any advantage. I ended up using alot of tire lube and muscle and good tire irons. on bigger rims the zip tie method works better. get a buddy to help 4 hands are better than 2 and be patient.

Put about 2 lbs in the tube when inserting it. Use fingertips to make sure the tube is centered and free after getting it in place but before seating the second bead of the tire. Then inflate to about 4 lbs. Basically get the tube as firm as possible without preventing the 1st bead from slipping into the drop-center of the rim.

I've mounted lots and lots of moto tires from knobbies to cruisers to Harleys (working in a shop provides that opportunity) and once you get a working practice established and follow it every time the only variable will be you. Do it the same way over and over and you'll develop a feel for pressure and force required and spot something amiss before damage is done.

Last tip: most pinches are from removing the iron and either pinching the tube with it directly or the bead pinching the tube when the iron comes out. Pivoting the iron rather than retracting it in a straight line is a big help with that.
