Hello, that was some great information. I have a 1986 Honda Spree all original. I'm having kind of the same issues it will run fine then when it warms up it really bugs down and dies. Any ideas. I just bought this used and I will do a tune up but I think i have the same problem like you man. Thank you and any help will be great.

Start with a compression test and go from there.
If it's below 114pounds, you should inspect/replace rings and or piston.

In my case, the compression was fine but the cylinder walls were scored bad. It was a 45 minute job, real easy.

Hello again. Bad news so far i replaced the cdi and the coil and no luck. I will check compression next. It starts every time but as it picks up speed then gets weak and dies. The person i,bought it from gave me receipts and he got the carb clean last year. Any ideas let me know please. Thanks

Last year was a long time ago, who konws what the carb looks like now. The air intakes on sprees are super fussy, if the stars aren't in perfect alignment then they run lean in a hurry. Check the air filter element and make sure its not a pile of rotten foam. clean it and reoil as per the manual or buy a new one for a couple bucks. Then make sure the the airox lid screw is tight enough use a socket not a screw driver and check that the gasket is not leaking. Then double check the hose from the airbox to the carb that the clamp the holds the hose on the carb is actually doing its job. Also make sure the spark plug gap is not too large 025 i think is what the gap should be not 028 which is the upper end of the spec in the manual. A new plug would not be a bad idea if you haven't already done so. hope some of this helps

Hello again. I checked my oil pump it doesn't seem to be working. checked when I was cranking the engine and no oil coming out. I'm going to put a drill on it but I really thinks is bad. I also checked carb and it looks all clean. Any Ideas? Thanks

just a thought, your pipe may be heavily gunked with carbon. I have seen some guys bake these spree pipes to de-gunk. That may be your acceleration killer. Do a search on that. Regarding that oil pump, you should be able to get a working used unit on ebay cheap if you don't want to premix.

if you suspect the oil pump might not be working drain the oil tank by pulling the black elbow that is at the corner of the tank, it has a filter screen on it. Clean it with compressed air from inside out. and if the oil is really old and been in there a long time sitting, and if the screen is all gunked up maybe fresh oil would be a good plan. I would do that before you buy a new one.
