Honda dio cdi derestriction

firstly http://profiteam.at.ua/forum/8-444-1
secondly http://vitebsk-scoot.ucoz.ru/publ/1-1-0-12
these are two cdi from honda dio and they both have a rev limiter which cuts the spark of when you have reached a definit amount. i can even feel it when the scoot is on the stand and i am giving half a throthle and then suddenly a amolst full throtle-it just doesnt pull more anfd you can hear that the engine doesnt rev up any more .it cuts the spark off already on 3/4 of the throttle.
and companies make lots of cdi even for those bikes which havent got a rev limiter so that 12 year olds would think that they are cool.

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
I would debate that statement with you: Aftermarket offers a lot of parts that provide no benefit or make questionable claims. I can give you specific examples if you'd like, but I think this is self-evident.bakaracer wrote:if it didn't do anything, companies wouldn't make it or sell it.
The question is whether or not this particular part adds benefit. Outside of JDM bikes (also the Russian bikes), which models have been shown to have RPM limiters in the CDIs? And in these cases, would the best option be to source a US-model OEM CDI for the equivalent model?
You've already backed up my point about needing to modify other parts of the engine as a first step. Part of this is degree advancement for firing... but if you want to tune this, why not just move the pickup sensor? You can easily get +/- a couple of degrees there, and adjust it infininately if you just need a DC offset (in other words, it would change the spark advance at all RPMs, not the shape of the RPM/advance curve.)
I've seen "real" programable CDIs where you can set ignition curves, but they are more expensive, and I'm still not sure what brands I'd trust, or if changing the shape of the RPM/advance curve really gets you much improvement over a DC shift detailed above.
Most of my dislike for this particular modification is that there are a lot of cheap, Chinese CDIs that are billed as "performance" but 1) do not improve performance and 2) are vastly inferior to the OEM part in terms of longevity. There is little recourse with the sellers in cases where the part prematurely fails.

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
yesi agree that there some cdi's which give you something and some are just meant for 12 year olds...
but you cant turn the pickup sensor because it is made so that you cant even put it differently...
so the thing i would appriciate wouild be if you answered where should i start from to tune my scoot?

After following these responses, this is my 'jump to conclusions mat' results:
Unless you are racing with a North American model moped there is no need for an aftermarket CDI because the stock unit is unrestricted. If you have a Japan model moped you most likely should upgrade your cdi...?

That's why you buy from Malossi or the Japanese heavyweights known as Daytona, Posh, and Chameleon Factory.noiseguy wrote:Most of my dislike for this particular modification is that there are a lot of cheap, Chinese CDIs that are billed as "performance" but 1) do not improve performance and 2) are vastly inferior to the OEM part in terms of longevity. Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
if its off of a jdm bike then its restricted. only the US bikes come unrestrictred or a very high rev limit. more than likely if it off your 89 dio af18 bike then its restricted.axo wrote:Ok i have this: GWO ci588a

What does JDM stands for? Japanese....? Yes. mine is japanese and i am talking about the original Honda CDI unit that came with it.bakaracer wrote:if its off of a jdm bike then its restricted. only the US bikes come unrestrictred or a very high rev limit. more than likely if it off your 89 dio af18 bike then its restricted.axo wrote:Ok i have this: GWO ci588a

So now do i need a tach to see how high it will rev? Right now i think is not reving up much because i did not tune the clutch and rollers yet. What RPMs are restricted CDIs limited to?

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
if you have a real japan dio replace the cdi with an lite-s, posted this at 10 yrs ago
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
GPS'd at 50mph... if i pass half the throttle the engine kind of bogs down ... like if the carb would be extremely big for it.bakaracer wrote:has to be lower than 7k . how fast does the bike go now?
I did not install the clutch springs yet... transmission still sucks.

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
does your carb have the power jet on it? meaning there is a hose that goes from the carb bowl to the top of the mouth of the carb.

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
ok... i have a plastic hose attached from the bottom of the bowl and makes a loop on top of the carb, then is is free to the open air... is this was a way to deal with the atmospheric pressure and to visually know if there is any gas in the carb?
There is also another small hose like seen on this picture:

Is this the power jet? What should i do

Re: Honda dio cdi derestriction
if your carb has the hose in the picture, disconnect it at the top.that is a power jet oko carb.until someone finds the correct jets for it,you won't be able to tune the carb right with it hooked up. just take the hose off the top nipple. you can leave it unhooked.don't plug the hose either. you will have to rejet the carb.what jets do you have in it now?
