If the other stuff mentioned in this thread doesnt work. take off your pg long and shake it and see if anything is rattling around in the pipe. my pg long has very few miles on it and there is already something rattling around inside. Ive just been too lazy to cut it open to see what it is. sucks having to cut into a brand new pipe.

Greetings:

The very distinctive "ringing bell" sound is almost certainly the steel fixed front pulley. Give it a tap with a wrench to confirm timbre. The sound seems to come and go on all my scooters too. Closest thing to an explanation I have is that the belt is slipping a bit and producing an harmonic resonance, like sliding a moistened fingertip around a wine glass.

OK, so it's lame, but what do you have?

You have to cut the middle section. there is a baffle screen that comes loose on the pg long pipes.it has like 3 tack welds that hold it in place if any and they break loose.

After taking apart the bike I too think the noise is the starter gear. I hit it against the front pulley and it had a similar sound.

Since everyone was thinking that sound was a small issue I focused on the speed part of my problem tonight. I took the carb, intake, bore and exhaust off the bike. I found no signs of leak. No dark black spots or shiny spots. So, I took the vari off and inspected it. The rollers had no flat spots but just to be sure I will test it with the unused set of 4 grams. As far as the weights are concerned they should have to effect on my top end right?? All they do is determine when the bike shifts and how long it takes to get there?

The belt looked ok, the edges are starting to frey a bit but no cracking. I think I will get a new one anyway since I have no idea how old it is. Is an OEM belt best?

After doing some research I tuned the carb to a 55 pilot, 142 main, needle clip in the middle and the AF screw 1.75 turns out. A few people with similar set ups are running 28 OKO's with similar specs.

I put everything back together and did a compression test. After cranking for a few seconds it maxed out at 110psi. I expected something in the 130 range. What do you guys think?

110 is too low.

Is the scooter hard to start?
It seemslike a 110 psi scooter would be hard to start.
Why are you using such light rollers? 4g may be too light to let the scooter shift into high gear if you have a bigger center spring.

Hope this helps

No, the scooter starts after the first or second kick. If the battery is charged (I need a new one) it usually gets it going after about 5 seconds. Any idea on how to increase the psi?

I'll switch from the 4 to the 6 gram weights then. Unless you think I should go higher?

I don't think your scooter would start and run as well as it does if the comp was really at 110psi
Are you 100% sure about the accuracy of that gauge, or that you cranked it for long enuff?

I would try 7 or 8 grams. you have to use heavier than stock rollers when you increase the size of the center spring.

The 72cc corsa should have plenty of power to make your take off very fast still.

If he is running the pg long, that pipe likes the little lighter rollers.with the 9to1 gears try half 6 and 7 g rollers.you might need so rollers that have half grams like 6.5g or 7.5g. But yeah double check that compression again and make sure that gauge is on tight and crank till the needle stops.

Thanks guys. I'll try again in the morning after the battery charges all night. The gauge is from Oreill's lone a tool so I'm sure it has been loved. I think HF has them pretty cheap. maybe I'll pick up my own and see.

I got the multi pack of weights from daywot when I bought my bore to get an idea of where I needed to be. So, I'll put 7gs in the vari and prey to the speed gods. :2thumbs:

8.2:1 gears :surprise: very tall

You should look into getting a tach.

It would make it easier to trouble shoot your scoot.

I bought a new gauge from HF. This one is reading 130 psi. So, I put my scoot back together with 7g weights in my vari and achieved a top speed of 54mph. I forgot to look down and see what my RPMs were though... I feel like it would have gotten a bit higher but after about .5 miles I ran out of road. Also, I ran it without the starter gear and no noise! So, thanks for that one.

How long does it take you guys with moded scoot to achieve top speed?

Trafficjamz... I see you are getting 62 mph. What mods are you running?

I can reach top speed of 62mph in a little over a quarter mile with 8.4:1 gears
I can reach 50mph in 13 seconds, in one 1/8th mile.

My mods are:
Boost port matched 50mm bbk
44mm ministroke crank
30mm OKO carb (too big IMO. 24 or 28 would be better)
Expantion chamber pipe
90/90 tire on a met rim
8.4:1 gears
CT manifold with 6 pedal reeds.
Prodigy ramp plate, variator, clutch, and vented clutch bell
9gram rollers and 1.5k center spring
2k clutch grab springs
I weigh 222lbs
