Starter broken?

This morning I went to start my Spree up and ride it to work, but when I did there was an odd noise and now when I try to start it with the electric start, it makes a whirring noise like a dentist's tool or a dremel.

Any idea? My only guess is the electric starter. Any help would be ...

So I went through with the drilling, and I actually had to force my way through the first set of baffles, which was a bit difficult due to me having to go in on an angle.

Nevertheless, I have not gained any MPH, but the scooter had seemingly much more low end now.

Any other easy/cheap/free mods?

Drilling out the muffler (before the baffles?)

So I've searched far and wide for specific instructions on how to correctly drill out the muffler to gain a few MPH. I want to do it, however I don't want to mess it up. Does anyone have pictures or would be willing to take pictures on where or how they modded thier muffler? It would be greatly ...

Shave .02 off head, advance the timing, larger main jet, adjust pilot needle circlip, free flow air filter. After all that's done do the pulley mod, and you won't lose any low end.

Use a 4 in beltsander to shave the head, need new headgasket $5.00

Pull the ignition pickup from behind the fan ...

with the cover off does the kick start rotate easily? also pull the kick start lever out away from the cover, see if there is any play. possibly the snap ring isnt in the groove on the kick start shaft allowing it to slide in and out. The kickstart doesn't rotate easily with the cover off, and ...

Spree n00b - kickstart help!

I picked up a 1986 Honda Spree off Craigslist, and when I bought it, before I handed the cash to the owner, I checked it out, drove it around, let it run for a few minutes, checked the tires, etc. The battery was shot so he claimed that all he ever did was kickstart it. So, he showed me it fired ...
