Did you check the inlet of the exhaust and drill it out, and remove the rear plate on the primary clutch? If its an SR I belive the R stands for restricted.

It will melt down without an exhaust. The expansion chamber ├óÔé¼┼ôsucks├óÔé¼┬Ø exhaust out, without it the motor can ├óÔé¼┼ôsuck├óÔé¼┬Ø in out side air. If the air is cool enough it will take a ├óÔé¼┼ôbreath├óÔé¼┬Ø and crack the piston. I did it to a YZ125 years ago.

You dont need a ring comp. The bottom of the jug is cut so you can slide the piston in easy. Make sure that you line the ring gap up with the stop on the piston and push it in. (lots of oil)
